So much is steeped in tradition. A good horse, properly turned out, the proper
clothing and an invitation to a hunt is a must.
There is protocol, respect for staff and the foxhounds to learn about.
There are usually two or three "flights" at the bigger hunt clubs.
- The first flight will go very fast and try to keep up with staff and hounds.
- The second flight will go a little slower - jump less and take shortcuts.
- The third flight are the "hilltoppers" who ride slowly and are escorted to sites
for good viewing of the hounds working. So one should be prepared to
request permission to ride in a suitable "flight".
